Caron Levis–author, playwright, trained actor, and private tutor–has been working in education for over ten years. She uses creative writing, drama, and storytelling to teach literacy, self-awareness, and communication skills to kids of all ages, teachers, and parents. Whether she is teaching reading, writing, study, or life skills she specializes in coaxing out the courage, curiosity, and confidence students need to become successful individuals and active citizens.
Caron works in both private and public schools, in all five boroughs, with students from pre-school through grad school and leads workshops for teachers and parents. She has been a special education shadow teacher, elementary assistant teacher, and performer of educational plays on topics such as cyber-bullying, and health. She currently teaches at the New School University’s Creative Writing Masters program and various arts education companies. Caron’s picture book for children, Stuck with the Blooz, will be out in fall of 2012. Her stories for young adults have been listed in The Best American Nonrequired Reading and nominated for the Pushcart Prize.
Born and raised in NYC, Caron attended Columbia Grammar and Riverdale Country school. She has a BA from Tufts University and an MFA in Creative Writing for Children and Young Adults from The New School University; she has studied acting at the Moscow Art Theatre in Russia and has taken part in teaching artist professional development programs with the Association of Teaching Artists and New York State Alliance for Arts Education, Community-Word Project, and Marquis Studio.
