Format and Content
Each subject test is a one-hour, multiple-choice exam. Students may take up to three SAT Subject Tests on a single test date. The “Language with Listening” tests are always given in the first hour of testing and only one listening test can be taken per test date. SAT Subject Tests and the SAT CANNOT be taken on the same test date.
Students must indicate which SAT Subject Tests they plan to take when they register. However, they may change which test(s) they actually take on test day — except for Language with Listening tests.
The content of the exam varies depending on the subject. Calculators may be used ONLY on the Mathematics Level 1 and Level 2 subject Tests.
Subject tests, like the SAT, are scored on a scale from 200-800 with percentile rankings also provided.
