Samantha Yanofsky is a NYS licensed elementary educator and reading specialist who has experience working with children from pre-kindergarten to fifth grade as a classroom teacher and private tutor. She graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor’s of Science in elementary education and then earned her Master’s degree in literacy education at Long Island University. She later furthered her education by completing her degree in early childhood studies in 2014.
Samantha worked as a head teacher for two years at a Long Island preschool, teaching more than 20 four- and five-year-olds. Samantha used many different strategies and approaches while preparing her students for kindergarten, adapting her teaching style to fit the needs of her students by integrating multiple sensory and tactile activities into the classroom. Samantha not only worked with her students from an educational standpoint, but also taught lessons in social skills and community awareness by incorporating guest speakers, field trips and shared play into the preschool’s curriculum.
Samantha has also worked at The LearningSpring School in Manhattan, where she was an assistant teacher in a kindergarten classroom with students on the autism spectrum. Samantha worked both one-on-one with students and the whole class to ensure they received all of the academic assistance they required.
Currently, Samantha is teaching at PS 32 in Brooklyn. There, she is a head teacher in an ASD Nest classroom. Her classroom contains 4-5 children on the autism spectrum and 8-9 neuro-typical learners. She is constantly using the knowledge learned and practiced in her past experiences in order to work with her students through their social, emotional and educational challenges and guide them toward success.
When Samantha is not teaching or tutoring, she enjoys searching the city for its most unique and delicious food. Along with a colleague, Samantha started a Culture Club at her school with her coworkers. The group ventures out into Manhattan’s culinary world to try fun and interesting ways to satisfy their hunger for new cuisines and worldly customs. Samantha also enjoys reading, cooking and spending time with her family and friends, whether it includes food or not!
