Michael Klionsky is an experienced chess coach, private high school math tutor, and SAT/ACT preparation tutor. He is a graduate of Caltech with a B.S. in Applied and Computational Mathematics. Most recently, as an undergrad he enjoyed working with Numerical Methods for Fractional Differential Equations as a means of more accurately modeling physical and chemical processes. He has always loved making connections between complex theoretical concepts and the world around him.
Growing up in Boca Raton, Florida there was nothing Michael relished more than searching for deep mathematical insights or peering thoughtfully over a chessboard for hours on end. As valedictorian of his high school, he excelled in standardized tests. He attained a perfect overall score of 36 on the ACT and a perfect 800 on the SAT and SAT II Math tests. In 2012, he discovered that his unique aptitude for chess, math, and test taking, coupled with a newfound love of teaching, made him perfectly suited to help others to reach their unique learning goals. For the past several years, he has enabled countless students with diverse learning objectives to achieve academic success.
Michael’s goal when working with his students is to provide them with the framework they need to master concepts while simultaneously broadening their interests, creativity and overall understanding. He believes current curriculums place too much emphasis on the methods and algorithms needed for analytical problem solving without providing students with the opportunity to create innovative and creative solutions. Michael often utilizes a holistic approach with his students; he works with parents to assess strengths and weaknesses, and then he tailors a plan to their specific needs. This strategy has empowered countless students to maximize their potential.
