Kristin McGee first discovered her passion for yoga while attending New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. Upon graduating with her BFA in Theater, she pursued a full time career teaching yoga and Pilates. Kristin received her certifications following her training with Om Yoga Studio, Richard Freeman, Kelly Kane School of Core Integration and Rodney Yee and Colleen Saidman at Urban Zen Integrative Yoga Therapy.
While Kristin loves working with students of all ages, she felt it extremely important to introduce yoga and mind/body fitness to young children and tweens. She knew that by introducing accessible yoga at an early age, students would enjoy the lifelong gifts of yoga practice. Kristin began teaching yoga in various schools and practicing with students privately in their homes.
In 2003, Kristin founded BENDIGIRL, a yoga practice designed for tweens and younger children. In 2008, she developed a complimentary program for boys called WARRIOR BOYS. Both programs focus on building self-confidence, fostering teamwork, and creating a positive self-image. An important component of each session is the development of relaxation strategies and encouraging self-expression through the poses by using storytelling techniques. Kristin also produced a BENDIGIRL DVD which is one of Collage Videos’s top selling children’s yoga DVDs to date.
Kristin currently teaches Bendigirl at the Reebok Sports Club on the Upper West Side, Karma Kids Yoga downtown, and Teen Pilates at The 76th Street Jewish Community Center. Kristin also leads private sessions for her young students and adults. Clients such as Tina Fey, Ben and Christine Stiller, Soledad O’Brien, Gabrielle Reece and Sierra Bender have shared the joy of Bendigirl with their daughters, sisters and nieces.
Bendigirl classes and private practices include yoga postures, breathing exercises, partner poses, and guided positive imagery. Practices are always full of fun, laughter, creativity and balance. Kristin believes that yoga is an incredible tool for all children and adults to become more focused, calm, creative and self-confident. Kristin loves to share yoga with everyone and her enthusiasm is contagious.
In her spare time Kristin volunteers and works with students at the Little Red School House, KIPP Academy, PS 11, Stuyvesant High School and The Live Light Live Right Foundation. Kristin can also be found teaching adult group yoga classes at Equinox, Clay, Yoga Works, Reebok, and the 76th Street Jewish Community Center. Kristin is also credited with choreographing and instructing 4 DVDs for MTV which include MTV Yoga, MTV Power Yoga, MTV Pilates and MTV Pilates Mix as well as 2 DVDS for Acacia which include Weight Loss Pilates and Pilates for Beginners. Kristin’s self-produced titles include Power Yoga and Bendigirl Yoga.
