Bernie Mulvaney graduated from the Crane School of Music in 2008 with a dual Bachelor’s Degrees in Voice Performance and Music Education. During his time as a student, Bernie performed the roles of Dmitri in the world-premiere production of The Sailor-Boy and the Falcon with Mezzo-Soprano Stephanie Blythe, Jupiter in Orpheus in the Underworld, Cladwell in Urinetown: The Musical and the title role in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro with the National Opera Association Award-winning Crane Opera Ensemble. Bernie has studied voice with baritone Boris Loushin and tenors Kirk Dougherty and Floyd Callahan. He has also performed in master classes with baritone Nathan Gunn and soprano Lisa Vroman. He was a winner in the Senior Men category at the National Association of Teachers of Singing Northeast Regional Conference Auditions in 2008.
Since his time as a student, Bernie has continued performing both musical theatre and opera. He has also served as Education Outreach Director for the Community Performance Series, providing year-round performing arts workshops and performances in local schools in six counties in northern New York State. As Co-Founder and Artistic Director of the SUNY Potsdam Performing Arts Summer Camp, Bernie has taught courses in Musical Theatre, Acting, and Audition Techniques to high school students.
At the college level, Bernie has tutored courses in Music Theory, Music History and Literature, and Aural Skills, and assisted in teaching courses in Audition Techniques and Opera Literature. He has also taught First-Year Success Seminars for first-year college students in the process of acclimating to college life.
