Alison Joseph is a Learning Specialist who after a career in marketing and being a stay at home mom decided to dedicate the next chapter in her life to the education of young children and private tutoring.
Alison graduated from Boston University and has a Master’s in Early Childhood and Special Education from Touro College. Since education is a lifelong process, Alison feels it is her job to practice what she preaches.
Since graduating she has become certified in PAF (Preventing Academic Failure) and Orton-Gillingham multi-sensory based program for reading and writing. She is also trained in Stern Math, also a multi-sensory learning program. Mutli-sensory learning has been proven highly effective in addressing non-traditional learning styles however, all types of learners can make great strides with these approaches. Honing in on what each child whether responds to is key to success as is being flexible in adapting to each child’s individual needs. The more resources one can pull from the more individualized a program can be.
Being the mother of a young child, Alison has become very familiar with the importance of Kindergarten Readiness and is able to focus on making sure a child is equipped with the right tools for any path they plan to take for their first primary educational experience. Alison also specializes in coaching the verbal reasoning and reading comprehension sections of the Lower Level ISEE.
Alison enjoys being outdoors, especially if it means playing a round of golf. She also enjoys indoor cycling and discovering new areas of Manhattan to sight see and dine in. Other hobbies include Canasta and Maj Jong. She also is a team captain for Cycle for Survival, an organization that raises money for rare cancer research. Her passion for eduction derives from raising a daughter in a competitive world and believing that every child deserves a chance to develop their strengths and passions.
